This teaching guide was created to help practicing teachers to organize project activity of students of the main stage of general education. The reasons for reviving of the project method in the Russian education system and the advantages of this type of activity in comparison with other educational technologies are presented from the standpoint of a historical approach. The authors describe the characteristics and the stages of project activity, define the roles of the teacher and students at each stage. They offer the classification of study projects on concrete examples and the developed criteria for evaluating projects of various types.
